© The press is the body which makes the issuance of the mass media on a regular basis. General ProvisionsPasal 11. Asas, Fuctions, Rights, Duties and Role of The PressPasal 2Freedom of the press is one manifestation of the people's sovereignty based principles of democracy, justice, and rule of law.Pasal 3(1) The national press has a function as a medium of information, education, entertainment, and social control.(2) In addition to these functions subsection (1), the national press can serve as an economic institution.Pasal 4(1) press freedom is guaranteed as a basic right of citizens.(2) The national press is not subject to censorship, bans or prohibition on broadcasting.(3) In order to guarantee freedom of the press, the national press has the right to seek, obtain and disseminate ideas and information.(4) In the news accountable before the law, journalists have the right Decline.Pasal 5(1) The national press is obliged to preach the events and opinions with respect for the religious norms and a sense of public decency and the presumption of innocence.(2) The press must serve Right of Reply.(3) The press must serve Rights Amendments.Pasal 6a. meet the public's right to know;b. uphold the fundamental values of democracy, promote the establishment of the rule of law and human rights, and respect for diversity;c. develop a general opinion based on accurate information, accurate, and true;d. supervision, criticism, corrections, and suggestions on issues related to the 9981 * public interest;e. fight for justice and truth.

IV. V. Council PressArticle 15(1) In an effort to promote freedom of the press and improve the lives of the national press, established an independent Press Council.(2) The Press Council perform the following functions:a. protecting press freedom from interference by the other party;b. undertake the assessment for the development of the press;c. establish and oversee the implementation of the Code of Journalistic Ethicsd. giving consideration to public complaints and seek resolution of cases dealing with the press,e. develop communication between the press, public, and government;f. facilitate press organizations in formulating regulations in the field of press and improve the quality of professional journalism;g. record of the press.(3) Members of the Press Council consists of:a. journalist journalists selected by the organization,b. press business leaders selected by the organization of the press;c. community leaders, experts in the field of press and or communications, and other fields selected by the organization and the organization of the press reporters.(4) the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Press Council elected from and by the members.(5) The membership of the Press Council as referred to in paragraph of this Article shall be stipulated by the Presidential Decree.(6) The membership of the Press Council applies for the period of three years and thereafter may only be re-elected for one term.(7) Other sources from the Press Council:a. press organizationsb. press companyc. assistance from the state and other aid are not binding.
VI. Foreign PressPasal 16Circulation of the foreign press and foreign press founding company representatives in Indonesia comply with laws and regulations.
VII. Public ParticipationPasal 17(1) Citizens may perform activities to promote freedom of the press and guarantees the right to obtain the necessary information.(2) The activities referred to in paragraph may be:a. monitor and report on the analysis of the violation of law, ethics, and technical errors made by the press coverage;b. submit proposals and suggestions to the Press Council in order to maintain and improve the quality of the national press.
VIII. Penalty ProvisionsPasal 18(1) Any person who knowingly commit unlawful acts resulting hinder or obstruct implementation of the provisions of Article 4 paragraph and paragraph shall be punished with imprisonment of 2 (two) years or a fine of not more Rp500.000.000, 00 (five hundred million rupiahs).(2) The company releases a violation of the provisions of Article 5 paragraph and paragraph, and Article 13 shall be punished by fine of not more Rp500.000.000, 00 (five hundred million rupiahs).(3) The press in violation of the provisions of Article 9, paragraph and Article 12 shall be punished by a maximum fine of 100,000,000, 00 (one hundred million rupiahs).
IX. Transitional ProvisionsPasal 19(1) With the entry into force of this law all laws and regulations applicable in the field of press and no agency or institution remain in force or continue to function as long as not contrary to or have not been replaced with new ones based on this law.(2) the Company's existing press prior to the enactment of this law, shall conform to the provisions of this law within a maximum period of 1 (one) year from the enactment of this legislation.
X. Final ProvisionsPasal 201. Law No. 11 Year 1966 on Basic Provisions of the Press (State Gazette Year 1966 Number 40, Supplement to Statute Book No. 2815) which has been amended by Act No. 21 of 1982 on the Amendment of Law Number 11 Year 1966 concerning Main Provisions of the Press, as amended by Act No. 4 of 1967 (State Gazette of 1982 Number 52, Supplement to Statute Book No. 3235);2. Act No. 4 of 1963 on Protection PNPS Against items molds contents to Disrupt Public Order (State Gazette Year 1963 Number 23, Supplement to State Gazette No. 2533), insofar as the provision of bulletins, daily newspapers, magazines and periodical publications; declared invalid.
